One Month Old

Well, time is FLYING by right now! Cara is already 5 weeks (and 1 day) old! She is 10 1/2 pounds already...a CHAMPION eater to say the least! We weigh her every week...I guess since we had such issues with Evan's weight, we are a little obsessed over it. I guess I am glad we bought the baby scale for him! :-) She seems to sleep ok through the night now, getting up to eat only once in the middle of the night before waking up for the next day. She really, really, really, really, really loves to be held. So much so that she can't stand her bouncy chair, her swing, her cradle, or her bassinet. But we have finally discovered that she can sleep pretty well in the glider seat. That is what Evan practically lived in, and it was put away as one of his things because I thought it might be hard to look at it without him in it. It is a little bit "heart-tugging," but she really seems to do pretty well in it, and I have this feeling that Evan wouldn't mind sharing. The picture above is of Cara's first bath in the kitchen sink! It seemed like it took forever for her cord to fall off, so she was getting sponge baths before that. She HATED sponge baths, but she LOVES the sink baths! It's always fun to see her eyes get big and excited like Evan's did so many times.
Cara is such a different baby than Evan. Night and day pretty much. Still a joy, and perfect in her own way. It does make me miss my baby boy even more. I want to have both of my kids here!! The relaxed and chilled out one right next to the fiesty one. It helps a little that we are in the midst of planning Evan's birthday as well as some Heart Walk fund raisers.
Speaking of those subjects, we are pretty close to being done with the care packages for Evan's birthday! I found some really nice throw pillows really cheap so I picked those up this week. A touch of home is always nice to have when you live in the hospital. The staff will give you pillows to use, but even if you got three of them, they are just really flimsy and not so comfy. These throw pillows are puffy and soft and hopefully will make a parent at CHP feel a little more comfortable. Our heart parent friend Buffy gave us one when we were there and I loved it. We have many friends helping us put these together...our friend Jill gave us some money and we bought all kinds of stuff with her contribution...puzzle books and all of the stuff we got at Michael's. Sandy sent us some stamps for the note cards we picked up (because when you live in a hospital you still have to pay your bills from home, and sometimes send out thank you cards to those who help you out), and of course Heeter & Howie are ordering those awesome American Eagle totes to hold everything! We want to thank all of our friends so much for their help! We know Evan loves his birthday presents!
We are also diving into our Heart Walk fund raiser and I'll get into that more later...my daughter is currently screaming for me. Hope everyone is well!
