Entry for April 7, 2008
Remember how I said I had plans every weekend through May 3? Well, this past Saturday we were planning to drive all over western PA to visit some friends. First we would go to our heart-parent friend Melanie's house (near Grove City) just to catch up since it's been way too long, then we were going to see some other friends who just moved to Monroeville...so yep, LOTS of driving! I knew we would be exhausted, but I also knew that it would be a nice time when we got to both places.
So we venture up to Melanie's with the goal of getting there at 11 am, and we underestimated the time, so we actually got there closer to 11:30. When we walked in the door, we said our hellos to Mel, turned the corner, and another heart-parent friend (Clarissa) was there! Then I hear that SURPRISE! My heat-parent friends threw a baby shower for me! I was shocked, and so happy! Two more of our friends from the hospital came, including Brian's mommy, who was Evan's first rommate after he was born. It was SO MUCH FUN!!! It is so nice to still be considered a heart parent. It is so nice to freely talk about Evan and all of the doctors, nurses and surgeons that became our 2nd family. There were a few tears, but it was just such a great time. We share such a special bond with these parents, and when we got together it was like we have known each other our whole lives. Another AWESOME treat was getting to meet Mr. Colton himself and his big brother Jensen. Colton's first open-heart surgery was on July 10, 2006. In fact, when Evan was transferred to Children's that day, we booted Colton to bed 3 so we could be in bed 2 in the CICU. :-) July 10 is a VERY special day for us and for Melanie's family because of that! Greg became buddies with Jensen (I think he's 4 years old) while I ate and chatted with the girls. Just a wonderful time all around!
I was and still am just so shocked and honored that they did this for me...sometimes it's hard to still feel like I fit in the "heart parent" world, but they undoubtedly still include me...and even after 14 months I still know and understand the lingo...what a GREAT group!
After the festivities we travelled to Monroeville which surprisingly only took an hour and a half...I thought it would be much longer. We had time to pick up some upcoming wedding gifts and even got Greg measured for his brother's wedding at the end of May. We then headed to Cathy and Rob's to see their new house. We met up with our other friends, the Ginsburgs, and had an awesome time visting and catching up with them. We ate and the played two games of Mille Bornes before we finally left. Mille Bornes is awesome, so if you haven't played it, get it!!!
After all of that traveling, I had the best nights sleep in months! I was totally beat and I crashed hard. And I must be going through a serious nesting phase right now, because I rented the Rug Doctor the next day and cleaned all of the carpets in my house!!! They look practically new! I just really want to get all of this kind of stuff done before the baby comes! I worked my tail off, and I paid for it last night...sore back...so today will be a day of REST!
Well, that's about it to report here. May is just a month away...not too much longer til we get to meet the baby sister of a perfect angel!
