A few things to catch up on…last week we went up to Clarion and had lunch with one of my old co-workers from the bank. We haven’t seen her since before Evan was born and wanted to catch up. We reflected on Evan’s life and talked about what was going on in the world of banking. It was really great to see her.
After lunch we met a woman who was inspired by Evan’s story. She sent me a bracelet with Evan’s name on it shortly after he died and continues to be a good ear for me when I need to vent. (I try not to burden one person with all of my issues, so I spread it among all of my friends and family!). She is so down to earth and so nice…I’m so glad I finally got the chance to meet her, and I hope we can get together again sometime!
Last week we also went to lunch with Greg’s parents in a little town called Smicksburg. A silly name for a town, but it was so cute! It reminded me of a tiny Ligonier. I mean TINY. We ate at “The Eating House” which had great food and a guitar player, we toured the winery and sampled some wines, and then we went to the Cheese House and sampled (& bought) some delicious cheese! This little town is in the middle of nowhere, but it is really a cute place. When I heard the name Smicksburg, I wasn’t sure how nice it could possibly be, but it was really adorable (& historical).
Over the weekend we tried to go out to dinner and a movie, but we never made it through dinner. Torrential rains combined with seeing babies everywhere just made me want to go home. So we did. We’ll try again some other time.
Sunday (of course) was Evan’s 11 month birthday and also the 4 month mark from when he passed away. We held up pretty well…I think I got a lot out of my system after our dinner/movie attempt. We watched his videos, looked at his pictures, talked about him A LOT, and I worked on my cross stitch. We also bought a small patio set so we have been hanging out on our deck a lot…I’m even cross stitching out there sometimes. It’s nicer than being cooped inside on such beautiful days. I swear God keeps sending us these beautiful days to help us…and I thank Him tremendously for doing it!
Yesterday was Greg’s first day of summer school which went pretty well. It’s only 4 hours a day for 3 weeks, which is a nice way for him to ease back into school. When he came home after school he brought binoculars with him, so now we are going to try to find Evan’s star…we know where it is off of the Big Dipper, but we haven’t been able to see it yet…hopefully the binoculars will help!
That’s about all that’s going on here. I made a test round of cupcakes yesterday to make sure I can make them without burning them before I bring them to the CICU for Evan’s birthday. We also started buying some things for the care packages we’re making…it just makes us so happy to do this.
